Emirates is strengthening its partnerships in Vietnam with Vietnam Airlines and VietJet.

The Dubai-based carrier announced the signing of two Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) with the Vietnamese flag carrier and budget carrier VietJet during the recent Vietnam-UAE Business Forum held in Dubai on October 28. According to Emirates, the MoUs will enhance connectivity between Dubai and its two gateways in Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

With Vietnam Airlines, Emirates stated the MoU aims expand the current cooperation in place between both carriers which was first with bilateral interline cooperation in 1994. Both carriers aim to enhance connectivity on routes beyond the existing interline agreement, add reciprocal loyalty benefits, and also enter exploratory discussions around potential collaborations across cargo and technical services.

The current relationship between Emirates and Vietnam Airlines covers 22 domestic and 15 regional points in Vietnam Airlines' network, and 12 points on Emirates' global network.

“This MoU with Emirates is a significant milestone for Vietnam Airlines. The cooperation allows us to unleash the combined power of our networks as Vietnam Airlines seeks to leverage our international presence and provide our passengers with enhanced flexibility and convenience,” said Nguyen Chien Thang, Executive Vice President, Vietnam Airlines.

“We are excited about the possibilities this partnership brings in strengthening the ties between the two airlines as well as the two countries, allowing our passengers to explore the most sought-after tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, the UAE and beyond.”

With VietJet, Emirates aims to work with the budget carrier to promote visitor traffic between the UAE and Vietnam, and strengthen cooperation between both carriers. The carriers aim to enhance connectivity to popular destinations served by VietJet via Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Access onto Emirates' global network via Dubai will also be enhanced for VietJet's customers.

Today’s partnership with Emirates marks the beginning of an official connection with the largest airline in the region,” Dinh Viet Phuong, Chief Executive Officer, VietJet. “Through this collaboration, Vietjet passengers will enjoy cost-effective, seamless journeys to international destinations worldwide, complemented by Emirates’ top-tier service. This agreement expands Vietjet’s global presence, attracts more visitors to Vietnam, fosters sustainable growth, and enhances cultural exchange. We believe this collaboration will have a positive, lasting impact on both nations and the international aviation industry.”

In a statement, Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer said: “Enhancing our cooperation with like-minded partners like Vietnam Airlines and VietJet is integral to our core commercial strategy to better connect customers across points beyond our own network. Vietnam is a market that presents tremendous opportunities to boost tourism and trade as a key hub in Southeast Asia, and Emirates supports the UAE government’s ongoing efforts to elevate its existing economic ties with Vietnam. Our decades-long cooperation with Vietnam Airlines has enabled us to enhance connectivity between Vietnam and Dubai, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to explore further elevating this partnership while also establishing a new strategic cooperation with VietJet. We look forward to growing our footprint in Vietnam and exploring more opportunities to widen the scope of our partnerships in the future.”

From Dubai, Emirates operates daily flights each to both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi using Boeing 777 aircraft. A second daily flight will be added to Ho Chi Minh City from January 15, 2025.
